Врач предупредил об опасности переедания после долгого голодания
Врач-гастроэнтеролог Евгений Белоусов предупредил о серьезных последствиях переедания после длительного голодания.
Он отметил, что excesive eating after a long period of fasting can lead to stomach discomfort, digestive disorders, and in some cases to serious problems such as malabsorption syndrome, where digestion and transport of nutrients are disrupted, or acute stomach distension. Belousov advised to gradually increase the amount of food consumed after fasting, starting with easily digestible products. He explained that when a person does not eat during the day, the body begins to use stored energy reserves. "First of all, glycogen stored in the liver and muscles is broken down, which helps maintain blood glucose levels. After the depletion of glycogen reserves, the body starts to break down fat tissues for energy," the gastroenterologist explained. According to Belousov, fasting for one to two days usually does not cause serious harm to health. However, even abstaining from food for such a short period can lead to headaches, nausea, weakness, irritability, and dizziness due to lack of nutrients. In addition, these undesirable consequences are caused by changes in hormonal levels: a decrease in leptin levels and an increase in ghrelin levels, which intensifies the feeling of hunger. Earlier, dietitian Rustem Sadykov recommended several drinks that have a beneficial effect on the stomach mucosa and improve digestion. According to him, the basis for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract is room temperature water, which helps to eliminate toxins, dilutes gastric juices, and improves metabolism.
